Do this first

Safe steps for young people.

  • Tell a trusted adult, parent, carer, teacher or school safeguarding lead.
  • Do not respond to threats alone.
  • Do not pay money if someone is blackmailing you.
  • Block the account after saving basic evidence like username, URL and screenshots of threats.
  • Do not send the image/video to friends for proof.
  • Use Report Remove, CEOP or IWF depending on the situation.

For schools and parents

Listen calmly. Do not blame the young person. Do not ask them to show or forward illegal sexual content. Follow your safeguarding policy and report through the right route.

Important: If it involves a pupil or under-18 intimate content, handle as a safeguarding concern.
